Meet Marie

My name is Marie Rodriguez, and I’m running to fight for a cleaner, safer Washoe County. I will focus on improving public safety and efficiency, creating opportunities to keep our local talent here at home, honoring our veterans, and ensuring our seniors receive the care and respect they deserve.

Growing up in a multi-cultural family, Marie’s early life was transitory. After they married, Marie and her husband had the goal to make their home near the mountains. When they arrived in Northern Nevada in 2000, they knew they’d found home. Inquisitive by nature, Marie has had multiple careers and traveled the country. Over ten years in the airline industry, four years as a medical technician, and twelve years as a professional truck driver have given Marie opportunities to meet and serve people from all backgrounds in industries that expect integrity, safety, and dependability.

Marie currently serves as a Community Services Officer for the City of Reno Police Department, a job she has held for the past seven years. Her background has given Marie firsthand knowledge of what is going on in local neighborhoods.

For the past several years, Marie has been an active volunteer serving on several boards including the Ward 3 Neighborhood Advisory Board, the Reno Arts & Culture Commission, and the Washoe County Library Board of Trustees. She is also in a leadership position with the Sierra Arts Literary Community. Marie has demonstrated her commitment to the arts, intellectual freedom, and access to information. Marie has also attended and spoken at numerous city council and county commissioner meetings during public comment as a private citizen.

Marie Rodriguez is running for Washoe County Commission District 2 and her platform focus includes: public safety, infrastructure and roads, smart growth, wildfire and flood response, and safeguarding Washoe County for future generations.

A Safer and More Efficient Washoe County

Public safety is the first and most fundamental

duty of any county government. Emergencies

don't stop at city limits, and local agency

responses shouldn't either. The 2024 Davis

Fire was a wake-up call that threatened our entire county, but nowhere was the danger felt more acutely than in Washoe Valley.

Keeping Washoe’s Talent at Home

Our greatest export shouldn't be our children. For too long, we have watched our brightest young minds and hardest-working students leave Washoe County because they don't see a clear path to a high-paying career or a home they can afford right here.

Honoring and Caring for our Seniors and Veterans

Washoe County veterans deserve respect for their service. Our seniors should be able to age with dignity and security. They have earned their benefits through decades of hard work and sacrifice. They shouldn’t need a computer science degree to access them. Unfortunately, for many veterans and seniors, today’s 'online red tape' has become a barrier to basic dignity.
